My Favourite 80's Movies

pretty in pink vinyl and 80s film dvds

I'm obsessed with movies from the 80's, it's probably my favourite genre! They're mostly uplifting films and still very relatable to this day. I have so many favourites, I might have to turn this into a series!

As you probably know, The Goonies is about two brothers and their group of friends who go on a treasure hunt in the hopes of saving their home and neighbourhood from turning into a golf course. They discover a map in their attic and go on the hunt, only to find they're not the only ones looking for One-Eyed Willy's treasure. It's such great adventure movie packed with laughs and thrills. There are so many funny scenes to enjoy, mostly revolving around Chunk. From his confessions to the moment he finds the dead body in the freezer!

Another great adventure movie where four young boys go on the search for a dead body. Their journey is an inspiring one as it turns from a lighthearted hike to a defining event that shapes the rest of their lives. It's based off of Stephen King's novella, 'The Body' and it has an amazing soundtrack!

I love love love this film! So much so that I have the soundtrack on vinyl! The scene where Duckie is dancing and singing along to 'Try a little Tenderness' will always be a favourite of mine! The movie follows Molly Ringwald's character, Andie, who comes from a poor background. She starts to date Blane, (HIS NAME IS BLANE?!) a rich and popular guy, and finds herself having to choose between him and her best friend, Duckie. The movie highlights class distinction and how it affects relationships. It's really heartwarming just as it is heartbreaking (Mainly from Duckie's point of view) but besides that, it's also a comedic teen movie which I'm sure most of you will enjoy! Seriously, watch it right now!

John Hughes is one of my favourite directors, so it won't be much of a surprise most of these movies are directed by him! I'm not one to rewatch movies, but I can't help myself with this one! Ferris ditches school for the day to hang out with his reluctant and legitimately unwell friend Cameron, and his girlfriend Sloane. I love this film as it really reminds me of my friends and I. Whilst convincing the headteacher and his parents he is unwell and at home in bed, Ferris takes his friends to an art museum, a sports game, a fancy restaurant, parade and takes part in lots of other cool activities. As the movie continues, Cameron and Sloane's anxieties about the future are revealed, but Ferris encourages them to take a step back and enjoy life.

How can anyone not love this?! It's such a brilliant, well thought out trilogy. Most sifi movies don't interest me, but when they do they become an immediate favourite. There are so many iconic scenes in each movie. I've even studied some of them for my university module 'Analysing Film' and I'm still not sick of them. I've even named my guinea pigs Marty and McFly...

This movie is about some teens in detention, as they learn more about one another, they learn about themselves and realise there's more to life than their stereotypes and labels. I find this movie really interesting, there are so many deep meanings behind what is presented to us on screen. If you've seen any of these movies, let me know what you thought!

  1. OMG! You took me back to my childhood years. I grew up during this decade and watched every single movie you listed at least 50 times lol. My favorite movies from that time was Pretty In Pink, all of the Back To the Future movies, Superman movies, and Heathers.

  3. I feel like I'm way too young to feel nostalgic for the 80s, even though I know so many people my age obsessed with 80s films! I've only watched The Breakfast Club from this list, but my favourite 80s movie has to be Heathers! It was just so dark and gritty, I loved it!
